The Ride Stuff

The adventures of a couple of happy bikers

Triumph Test Rides

I’ve not had my own bike for a few months now as I’m saving up for a new one, so I’ve not done much riding of late.

Jess was keen to test ride the Triumph 800XC as that’s what she’ll be riding during our upcoming South African bike tour, so she booked a test-ride with our local Triumph dealer. She also arranged for me to ride the Triumph Explorer at the same time.

To be honest, I wasn’t that bothered about going out as I hadn’t planned on riding one in SA and I certainly had no intention of buying one. Jess had gone to the trouble of organising it and we were meeting a friend, Sara, as well, so I went along a bit reluctantly.

Well, I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised with the bike. I found it very smooth, responsive and comfortable to ride and I’m even tempted to buy one now. I might change my mind and hire one in SA before I make a final decision, as that would give me three weeks of riding it, which would give me a better idea.

Jess loved the 800XC too, which is very surprising for her as she favours the sport bike style of riding. In fact, she enjoyed it so much that she is now considering a swap back to a more sit-up style of bike.

It turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks, Jess!

(Thanks to Sara as well for the tea and ride-out!)
